Unlike metal machining, plastic materials have special cutting characteristics. They have poor thermal conductivity, low melting points, and low modulus of elasticity. Cutting can cause thermal deformation, burrs, and surface melting. Our CNC plastic milling covers POM (acetal), nylon (PA6/PA66), PEEK, PC, ABS, PTFE (Teflon), UHMW-PE, and acrylic. We machine housings, gears, bearing retainers, seals, insulating washers, and optical lens brackets. Every CNC plastic milling job we deliver is free from thermal damage and burrs.
Specialized Plastic Cutting Techniques
Our unique process advantages set us apart in plastic machining. The key to plastic machining is "low temperature, sharp tools, high speed." We use single-crystal diamond or PCD inserts with sharp cutting edges to reduce cutting force. We run at very high speeds (15000-30000rpm) with small depth of cut (0.2-1.0mm). Compressed air cooling replaces cutting fluid to prevent plastic from absorbing moisture and expanding. For crystalline plastics like PEEK and POM, we carefully control cutting temperature. This prevents thermal decomposition or crystallinity change during machining. Our CNC plastic milling produces parts with stable dimensions, no melt marks, no burrs, and no stress whitening.
Temperature Control and Dimensional Stability
Quality control for plastic parts focuses on dimensional stability and appearance. Plastics have much higher thermal expansion than metals (5-10 times). We strictly control workshop temperature at 23±1°C. After machining, we allow sufficient time for workpieces to reach room temperature before measurement. We use CMM and optical projectors for dimensional inspection. Surface roughness testers check surface quality. For transparent plastic parts like acrylic, we perform full inspection under strong light. No scratches, bubbles, or stress marks are allowed. Every batch includes complete dimensional inspection reports. Our CNC plastic milling accepts orders starting from 1 piece. Prototyping takes 2-5 days. Batch production takes 7-20 days.
