CNC Stainless Milling

CNC stainless milling is our most technically challenging machining service. Stainless steel contains high chromium and nickel. It offers excellent corrosion resistance and strength. But it is notoriously difficult to machine. Stainless steel work-hardens rapidly. It has low thermal conductivity (about one-third of carbon steel). Cutting temperatures are high. Tool wear is fast. Chips tend to stick to tools. Our CNC stainless milling covers 304, 316, 316L, 410, 420, and 17-4PH grades.

High-Skill Milling for Stainless Steel

CNC stainless milling is our most technically challenging machining service. Stainless steel contains high chromium and nickel. It offers excellent corrosion resistance and strength. But it is notoriously difficult to machine. Stainless steel work-hardens rapidly. It has low thermal conductivity (about one-third of carbon steel). Cutting temperatures are high. Tool wear is fast. Chips tend to stick to tools. Our CNC stainless milling covers 304, 316, 316L, 410, 420, and 17-4PH grades. Applications include food machinery, medical devices, chemical equipment, marine engineering, and semiconductor industries. Every CNC stainless milling job we handle demonstrates our technical expertise.

Proven Machining Strategy for Stainless

We have developed a mature process system for stainless milling. To counter work-hardening, we follow a "heavy depth, low speed, high feed" strategy. Depth of cut stays above 0.5mm to keep the tool tip cutting below the work-hardened layer. Cutting speed is controlled at 60-90m/min (50-60% of carbon steel speeds). Feed rate is increased so the insert "pushes" rather than "rubs" the material. We use special stainless steel inserts with high toughness and sharp edges. High-pressure internal cooling (30-50 bar) directs coolant to the cutting zone. This removes heat quickly and flushes away sticky chips. These measures effectively control work-hardened layer depth. Tool life is extended. Surface quality is maintained.

Precision Control and Quality Verification

Precision control in CNC stainless milling is one of our proudest technical strengths. By carefully controlling coolant temperature and cutting parameters, we minimize thermal deformation. Our machined 316 stainless valve body mounting surfaces achieve flatness within 0.02mm. Food machinery parts in 304 stainless reach surface roughness Ra≤0.8μm. We maintain a quality history file for each customer. Every batch's data and experience are recorded. This ensures continuous improvement on repeat orders. Quality inspection for stainless parts is stricter than for ordinary materials. We use CMM for first-piece full dimension inspection on every batch. For 304/316 parts requiring intergranular corrosion resistance, we perform testing per ASTM A262 and provide complete reports. Our CNC stainless milling batch defect rate is below 200ppm. We accept orders starting from 1 piece. Prototyping takes 3-7 days. Batch production takes 20-35 days. Standard warranty is 1 year. Our customers span food equipment, medical devices, and chemical equipment industries.
