Precision Turning for Shaft Components

 

CNC shaft turning is our core turning service. Shafts are among the most common mechanical components. They range from motor rotor shafts to pump drive shafts, from cylinder piston rods to guide shafts in various motion mechanisms. Our CNC shaft turning covers all material types including carbon steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, aluminum alloy, copper alloy, and engineering plastics. We machine plain shafts, stepped shafts, hollow shafts, splined shafts, threaded shafts, and eccentric shafts. Maximum machining length reaches 3000mm. Maximum diameter reaches 200mm. Every CNC shaft turning job we deliver meets high geometric accuracy standards.

Handling Slender Shaft Challenges

 

The main challenge in shaft machining is rigidity. The larger the length-to-diameter ratio, the lower the rigidity during machining. This causes bending and vibration. We use different strategies for different shaft types. For slender shafts with length-to-diameter ratio above 10, we use "one end clamped, one end supported" with follower rests. This prevents bending during machining. For cutting parameters, we use small depth of cut, high speed, and low feed. This reduces radial cutting force. Our machines are equipped with automatic tool setters and online measurement systems. These monitor tool wear and dimensional changes in real time. Our CNC shaft turning achieves coaxiality within 0.01mm and cylindricity within 0.008mm on stepped shafts.

Geometric Accuracy and Surface Finish

 

Quality control for shaft parts focuses on geometric accuracy and surface roughness. We use roundness testers to check shaft roundness. Roughness testers check journal surface roughness. For bearing fit journals, we control surface roughness at Ra≤0.4μm. Journal dimensions are held to h6 or h7 tolerance. Every batch uses CMM to inspect length, diameter, step positions, and thread dimensions. Full FAI reports are provided before shipment. Our CNC shaft turning has earned strong reputation in automotive transmission and industrial equipment sectors. In 2022, we machined transmission shafts for an engineering machinery customer. Each shaft was 850mm long with outer diameter tolerance ±0.015mm. We completed the order with 98.5% yield and 100% on-time delivery. Standard production takes 15-30 days. Rush orders can be expedited. We accept orders starting from 1 piece. Standard warranty is 1 year.
