Precautions For Using A Standing Desk

Jul 19, 2026|

1. Adjust the height correctly: The desk surface should be roughly level with the user's elbows, allowing the arms to hang naturally and preventing shoulder tension. The top of the monitor should be at or slightly below eye level to reduce neck strain.

2. Maintain good posture: When standing, place your feet firmly on the ground with your weight evenly distributed between your legs. Keep your knees slightly bent to avoid locking the joints for extended periods. Maintain the natural curve of your back, avoiding excessive leaning forward or backward.

3. Change posture periodically: Staying in the same position for a long time can cause discomfort. It is recommended to change positions regularly-such as by briefly sitting down or performing gentle movements. Some users opt for a high stool to allow for a change in support when needed.

4. Wear appropriate footwear: Choosing shoes with good support helps reduce fatigue while standing. Avoid high heels or overly stiff soles, as these can increase pressure on the feet.

When using a standing desk, ensure the height is adjusted reasonably. A higher desk is not necessarily better; the height should be tailored to your stature and working posture. While standing, keep your arms naturally bent, position the keyboard and mouse for easy access, and keep your shoulders relaxed. Adjust the monitor to the proper height to avoid prolonged tilting of the head up or down. Alternate between sitting and standing based on your work tasks; maintaining a single posture for too long is not recommended.

Pay attention to the desk's load-bearing capacity and safety during height adjustments. Ensure the total weight of equipment on the desk-such as computers, monitors, and printers-does not exceed the manufacturer's specified limits. Before adjusting the height, check for obstacles (like chairs or cabinets) above or below the desk, and ensure power cords and data cables are not being pulled or snagged. While anti-collision features offer some protection, you should still remain aware of your surroundings during use. If the desk wobbles significantly, sticks during adjustment, or makes unusual noises, stop using it and inspect it immediately.

For electric standing desks, pay attention to the power supply and routine maintenance. Prevent water or other liquids from entering the control panel, motor, or power ports, and do not spray water directly onto electrical components when cleaning the desk surface. You may turn off the power when the desk is not in use for extended periods. Keep the area around the lifting columns and desk frame clean to prevent debris from entering the moving parts. If the motor fails to operate, the power cord is damaged, or an unusual odor is detected, disconnect the power immediately; do not attempt to disassemble the motor or controller yourself.
